Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiol
Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, MD, PhD, MS is Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of California, Davis. He is the Founder and Director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at UC Davis Health and the Director of the Community Engagement Program of the UCD Clinical Translational Science Center (CTSC). He is a member of the National Advisory Council of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), and ex=board member of the California Health Care Foundation and board member of the Physicians for a Healthy California, and the Public Health Institute.
He is currently serving as a founding member of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) World Mental Health Survey Consortium (WMH) and its Coordinator for Latin America participating countries. Dr. Aguilar-Gaxiola was co-chair of the 2nd edition of the Principles of Community Engagement, published by NIH/CTSAs and the CDC, and oversaw its entire Spanish translation. He was also an assistant editor and co-author of five chapters of the recently released 3rd edition of the Principles of Community Engagement and led the writing of a 10th principle on the key role trustworthiness plays on advancing health equity. Dr. Aguilar-Gaxiola is a co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Assessing Meaningful Community Engagement Measures in Health and Health Care. He is the author of over 220 scientific publications and the recipient of multiple international, national, state, and local awards. Most recently, he received a 2nd place award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Innovations That Bolster Community Trust in Science Award.
